Welcome to our shop!
My name is Ellie, I'm a web lady by day and cat mom by night. This website is my project to support my rescue cats' living costs, their vet needs, and Mama's medical debt. In 2023, I had my rescue cats and cared for 3 strays that one of my neighbors neglected. I've been feeding these strays for about 3 years, I couldn't take them in because I don't have space inside the house, my cats are quite territorial and one of them started peeing the last time we took in a stray cat in 2020. They lived outside my porch peacefully, until the worst nightmare happened. On the night of October 29, 2023, my other neighbor's two dogs got out of her backyard and attacked the 3 strays. This wasn't the first time these dogs got out of her property because she didn't secure her gate, but it was the first time - that I knew of - they hunted the strays. Ragidy O -- an old orange cat with no teeth saved himself by climbing my neighbor's tree, Ears -- a very skittish tabby ran under my car, and Mama -- a beautiful sweet calico was sitting on a tall brick on my porch when the big dog jumped on her and started to attack her. The attacks were recorded on my security cameras.
I was inside the house when I heard Mama scream, I ran out to check and found the big black dog was attacking Mama. I pulled the dog's neck to save Mama without thinking that it might attack me, he was too strong, this 97-pound lady couldn't handle at least a 60-pound dog in attack mode. I hit it with my hands but it was too strong and still attacking Mama. My husband heard me scream and came to help, he hit the dog a few times until he let go of Mama, and she ran toward my car and got inside my car engine compartment. I smelled blood, I saw blood everywhere. My hands were shaking and bruising. We waited 2 hours until she finally got out of my car engine, we took her to an animal ER hospital, she was severely injured and needed to be sedated to ease the pain. 6 hours later the x-ray showed her right front paw was crushed, and her front leg was broken in 2 parts. The option is to get a costly surgery ($7k) to put a metal pen on the broken bones at the ER that may or may not get her back to walk normally, to amputate her leg which would cost around $5k at the ER / $3k at a non-ER hospital, or put her down if we can't pay the first two options. I couldn't put her down, I love her even though she wasn't living in my house, so I decided to use my Care Credit to pay the amputation cost and went to a non-emergency pet hospital. Long story short, on top of my planned expensive surgery fee to heal me from chronic pain from my medical conditions, I'm still paying for Mama's emergency treatment.
The 3 strays now live safely in our garage. I'm hoping to make a catio for them adjacent to my garage and the next dream would be to create a backyard cat shed with an extended catio. My bigger dream would be to purchase a plot of land in the countryside so we can have our house, a food-growing garden, and a barn-catio cat sanctuary 😻 Oh dear universe, hear me out!
As a person who supports local cat rescue, I will donate $1 for each product sold in this shop to Operation Pets Alive (OPA). OPA is a non-profit organization based in Montgomery County Texas, that helps to rescue cats, dogs, rabbits, and other small animals to get a forever home. They also offer a TNR (Trap Neuter and Release) program for cat colonies in the local communities. So, why do I choose this specific organization? They have great people who genuinely love animals! And also, I volunteer with them. Nowadays, I don't do fostering due to no space in my little house, but I volunteer to clean Kitty condos at a Petco that works with OPA to help homeless kittens/cats find their forever homes.
Thank you for reading our story and supporting my kitties, me, and our local rescue!
Happy shopping!
